US senior State Dept. official to travel next week to Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Qatar


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Oct 11 (KUNA) -- US Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs R. Clarke Cooper will travel to Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Qatar from October 13-18 "to build on US efforts to strengthen regional security partners in the face of growing Iranian aggression," the Department said in a statement Friday.
In Riyadh, Cooper will join Undersecretary of Defense John Rood on the US delegation "for a meeting of the Strategic Joint Planning Committee to consult with senior Saudi officials on regional security and defense cooperation."
In Amman, Cooper will meet with Jordanian officials "to discuss regional security challenges and opportunities to expand partnership in support of the Jordan Armed Forces' ability to secure its borders; counter terrorist threats; participate in coalition operations; and defend Jordan's national territory."
Furthermore, in Doha, Cooper will take part in an Ambassadors' conference hosted by US Central Command (CENTCOM), "where he will consult with US Chiefs of Mission from across the region, as well as meet with senior Qatari military and civilian officials". (end)
