(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, July 21 (Petra) - The government announced the results of the second quarter of its 2019-2020 priorities plan under commitment to disclose information along with figures.
Minister of State for Institutional Performance Development, Yasera Ghosheh, and Minister of State for Media Affairs Jumana Ghuneimat held a press conference Sunday morning to discuss the results.
Ghuneimat underscored that the government is committed to periodically announcing the results of its priorities plan, noting that the document containing the priorities and results achieved has been made available to the public.
She stated that the methodology of the government's work on the priorities plan is clear and transparent, pointing out that it made 187 commitments under three core areas; state of law, production and solidarity.
Ghneimat said indicators were put in place to measure the achievement of these commitments, including international rankings Jordan plans to move up on, such as the Rule of Law Index, Corruption Perceptions Index, Global Competitiveness Index, Ease of Doing Business Index, and several other indicators related to quality and standard of living.
The minister highlighted a system to follow-up on and evaluate the implementation of commitments through the Government Achievement and Performance Unit, a specialized technical unit that presents periodic reports to the Prime Minister and the Cabinet.
She underlined that the government plans to shed light on non-governmental reports and evaluation initiatives, so that citizens could properly judge performance.
During the press conference, Ghosheh highlighted the second quarter results report of the 2019 government priorities plan, which is available on the official website www.your.gov.jo.
The government achieved 25 out of 33 commitments for the second quarter of this year, at a rate of 75.7 percent, she added.
On the state of law area, Ghosheh pointed out that the government began recovering JD33 million of public funds that were spent unlawfully, in addition to referring 148 cases, through the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission, to court during the first half of 2019, compared to 123 cases in 2018.
The government carried out several campaigns aimed at stopping attacks on water and electricity lines, in cooperation with security apparatuses, she added.
She said over 1,100 illegal wells were sealed, over 51,000 cases of attack on water lines and networks were dealt with, and over 8,000 cases of electricity theft were recorded, noting that the total number of cases of tamper and theft of electricity in court is 1,817, of those 1,031 were decided on.
On the state of production area, Ghosheh pointed out that the government, under the priority of development through investment, expanded the scope of funding within the Central Bank of Jordan's program to finance and support economic sectors. The health, transportation/transport companies, vocational and technical training sectors were included in the program.
She said the government has created more than 18,000 jobs so far, out of the 30,000 it undertook earlier this year in targeted sectors.
On the state of solidarity area, she stated that the government, as part of the priority of improving the level of health care, floated a tender to purchase services from the private sector for those who have health insurance in the form of 59 service packages to alleviate the pressure on the government hospitals.
She said the first phase of the Amman Bus project was launched through the Greater Amman Municipality with a capacity of 135 buses and the use of electronic payment. The total number of buses for the project will be 286 small and medium sized buses by 2020.
On commitments that have yet to be achieved, Ghosheh noted that the government pointed out the delay under the decentralization approach, adding that the reason for the delay the government's keenness to complete the review process of the decentralization experience, through the development of a comprehensive law.
