Oman- Ooredoo posts RO17.8mn net profit for H1

Telecom services provider Ooredoo Oman on Monday reported a 1.1 per cent growth in its net profit for the first six months of 2019 at RO17.8mn, as against RO17.6mn it reported in the corresponding period a year ago.

The telecom major also reported a nearly flat growth or just 0.1 per cent increase in its overall revenues for the first half of the current year at RO139.1mn. The company had reported RO131mn in the same period a year ago, Ooredoo said in a filing to the Muscat Securities Market.

In the filing, Ooredoo said that its mobile and fixed customer base increased by 5.3 per cent to 3.11mn as against 2.9mn in the corresponding period a year ago.

Interestingly, the company had reported a decline of 2.1 per cent in its net profit for the three months period ended on June 30, 2019 at RO9.4mn as against RO9.6mn it reported in the same quarter last year.

Similarly, the telecom giant also suffered a set back in its revenue growth for the quarter under consideration. The company in its filing indicated that its revenue for the second quarter of the current year fell by 1 per cent to RO70.4mn against the RO71.1mn net profit reported in the same period a year ago.

The company in its filing also said that these are unaudited results and are subject to approval of the board of directors.
