Muscat to host Arab Seniors Tennis Championship in 2020


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat will host one of the biggest Arab tennis tournament when the seventh Arab Seniors Tennis Championship will be played at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex (SQSC) from January 4-8, 2020.

Confirming the hosting of the championship, which is expected to attract 200 players from 18 Arab nations, Majeed Alasfoor, vice-president of the Arab Seniors Tennis Association said, 'We are delighted to host the biggest Arab tennis tournament early next year.'

The championship will be organised in cooperation between Oman Tennis Association (OTA) and the Arab Seniors Tennis Association.

Alasfoor said, "We have received full support from Khalid al Adi, the OTA chief, who has promised to make it a memorable and a successful  championship. The Arab players are looking ahead to compete in Oman with pleasant weather welcoming them in January in Muscat.'

The seniors meet will feature 11 categories for men and women. It will include singles and doubles events in men's +35, +45, +55, +65 and +35 women's singles and doubles and mixed doubles. This is the first time that Oman will host the Arab seniors tournament since the inaugural edition was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in January, 2018.

Alasfoor is the defending men's doubles +65 champion having won the title at the last championship in Amman, Jordan in April. It was his second successive crown,  having won the doubles title in Baghdad, Iraq in February.
