5 percent energy demand in Namibia to be achieved


(MENAFN) Namibia is expected to witness its 37 MW Hardap Solar PV plant meet around 5 percent of yearly energy demand.

Minister of Mines and Energy Tom Alweendo is opening the highly anticipated pant on June 20 this year, announced spokesperson of NamPower Gladwin Groenewaldt.

According to the spokesperson, "prior to its construction, there were several 5 MW PV plants erected under the ReFIT program and at the moment there are two 10MW GreeNam PV projects installed near Mariental and Keetmanshoop respectively."

Groenewaldt further added that through the plant, the country will be receiving more contribution in its target to cut power imports so as to achieve self-sufficiency.
