Qatar- Al Shaqab to conduct internal competition for student riders

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Equine Education Department (EED) of Al Shaqab, member of Qatar Foundation, is all set to host the Al Shaqab Equine Education Department Second Internal Competition today. The one-day event, which will be held at Al Shaqab's state-of-the-art equestrian facilities, is open to student riders of all skill levels, including Beginner, Intermediate, Lead Rein, and Show Class.
With horse riding becoming increasingly popular in Qatar, the demand for riding lessons at Al Shaqab has risen significantly. The centre conducts regular training sessions, with instructions being made available for all skill levels, starting with students aged six and older.
The upcoming equine competition is part of the curriculum followed at Al Shaqab. It has been organised for riders to show they have completed a certain skill level, while also helping to increase their ability and experience. In addition, the EED expects that by implementing the high standards of its school system, its technical staff will be further trained and developed in the organising and management of major competitions.
Participants in the Second Internal Competition will take part in dressage and showjumping, two important Olympic equine disciplines. While showjumping has always been a favourite among Qatari riders, dressage has been steadily gaining distinction in recent years, and more young riders are competing in the discipline.
Mohamed Sultan al-Suwaidi, manager, Equine Education Department at Al Shaqab, said: 'Horse riding has several significant advantages. It instils in the rider leadership skills as well as the proficiency required in quick decision making and strategic thinking. The upcoming competition is open to all our student riders, from the youngest to the 17-year-olds. We believe these events will not only help us evaluate the progress of our riders, but also instil in them a greater measure of confidence and provide them with valuable experience.
Al Shaqab is passionately committed to nurturing and promoting Qatar's renowned equine legacy. Viewing equine education as a vital community asset, the centre offers a diverse range of riding lessons, equine training, and equestrian camps, to educate and promote horsemanship.
Al Shaqab's popular EED has attracted several youngsters interested in riding, and there has been more than a 200% increase in riding school applications. By conducting events and competitions such as the Second Internal Competition for its riders, and showcasing the school curriculum, Al Shaqab hopes to further encourage and inspire the next generation of riders.
