Paralysed Indian worker in UAE needs help to go home

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) An Indian wife has flown to the UAE to seek help in repatriating her bed-ridden husband.

Sadeeqa's husband Kunjali Monutty, 49, has been paralysed from his waist down after a tragic road accident on November 28 in Bahya, Abu Dhabi.

Kunjali, who hails from Kerala, is currently undergoing treatment at Mafraq Hospital. He was working as a delivery boy and met with the accident while he was on duty.

"He has already had three surgeries after the accident. But the doctors are saying that thechance of him being able to walk again is almost nil," Sadeeqa told Khaleej Times.

The couple from Kerala has three children - Muneer, 17, Fathima, 11, and Muhammad, nine.

"He is the sole breadwinner of our family. Now, it is a big struggle to pay rent and send the children to school," Sadeeqa said.

She said she was flown into the UAE on January 1 by a community organisation in Kerala that is supporting the family. "We don't have anyone to count on except some compassionate souls who can help fund my husband's future treatment and repatriation," she said.

Kunjali has been living in the UAE for the last seven years. Before that, he worked in Qatar for 12 years as a cattle herder.

Afsal Poochira, a family friend in Dubai, said it would be difficult for Kunjali to claim a compensation for the accident.

"The police report is not favourable. Also, he was driving a two-wheeler vehicle without a licence. His only hope is the help that he can get from his family, friends and others," said Poochira.
