MENAFN- Asia Times) The Philippine government no longer requires Filipinos to present a birth certificate when they renew their passports. In a statement , the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said under the new department order , birth certificates were no longer required for regular passport renewals.
The order will take effect 15 days after it is filed with the University of the Philippines Law Center.
'DFA Consular Offices across the country and Philippine embassies and consulates general abroad may still require additional documentation to ascertain Filipino citizenship and for minors, proof of identity and family relations,' the DFA said.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Locsin Jr issued the order to make it easier for applicants to renew their passports.
The new order covers only regular passport renewals and will not cover first-time passport applications, renewal applications for lost and mutilated passports, renewal applications requiring changes in the passport entries, renewal applications of old brown and green passports bearing no complete middle name and applicants included in the department's watchlist.
