Oman- MoAF lifts ban on sheep, goat imports from South Africa


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MoAF) has issued a decision lifting the ban on import of sheep and goats from South Africa.

decision stipulates that a prior import licence from the veterinary quarantine department should be obtained and animals should come from areas free of foot-and-mouth disease.

The decision states that the breeding farms must be registered with the competent authority in South Africa. The farm also should not have been diagnosed to have Rift Valley fever during the past 12 months prior to shipment.

Animals should be inspected within 48 hours before they are exported and they must be free of any symptoms, parasites or external wounds.

The supplier must provide an authentic government veterinary health certificate stating the requirements of the sultanate upon the arrival of the animals.

Animals must be transported directly from the ports of South Africa to the sultanate.
