Amman, Nov. 7 (Petra)- Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Mary Kawar, inaugurated on Wednesday the annual meeting of the Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics (AITRS), at its 43rd session.

Heads of statistical agencies from 16 Arab countries are taking part in this event.

The AITRS conference will discuss the launching of a Master's distance learning program in official statistics, human-centered sustainable development, indicators of relevant data, and 2019 budget.

During the opening ceremony, Kawar said Jordan has achieved a qualitative leap in the statistical development and the integration of modern technology in the statistical operations, stressing the Kingdom's readiness to cooperate with Arab peers to exchange expertise and develop joint statistical action.

The minister called on maintaining support to the statistical departments, to strengthen their human and institutional capabilities, and to update their statistical systems to keep pace with global trends, respond to the needs of beneficiaries and expand the integration of modern technologies in the preparation and dissemination of the statistical data.

This effort, she said, will enhance statistical performance, provide the qualified manpower, and strengthen the relationship among the Arab statistical bodies, universities and research institutions.
