FIFA World Cup: England vs Panama preview
23 Jun 2018

England will take on Panama in their second game of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The Three Lions are targeting a victory on Sunday which will confirm their place in the knock out stages of the premier tournament.

England began their campaign with a 2-1 victory over Tunisia with Harry Kane scoring twice on the night.

Here is our pre-match report.

Minnows Panama have to avoid a defeat
Hope

Panama are currently placed at the 3rd spot of Group G after a 3-0 thumping in the hands of Belgium.

Minnows Panama can still qualify for the knock out stages.

However, they must avoid a defeat against the Three Lions to keep their chances alive.

Panama are appearing at the World Cup for the first time in the history of the tournament.

England have been far from convincing
No big threat

Despite their 2-1 victory over Tunisia, England haven't been convincing.

They sealed the 3 points in injury time with Harry Kane scoring the winner.

However, the fighting spirit, which they displayed against Tunisia, should motivate Gareth Southgate and his men to get the ball rolling against Panama.

Further, Harry Kane is enjoying the form of his life and is England's lethal weapon.

England have bounced back from 2014 debacle
New squad

England had a nightmare of a campaign back in 2014.

They were knocked out of the tournament without a single victory and finished at the bottom of their group.

However, for 2018, Southgate has selected young players who have much more vigour than the last batch.

Loftus-Cheek is likely to be given his first start after Tottenham ace Alli picked up an injury.

First meeting between the two sides
Head-to-head

This will be the first time that these two sides will lock horns at the World Cup.

Panama will become the 38th country whom England would face at the premier tournament.

Notably, England have lost their first meeting only against 5 out of 37- US, Spain, Uruguay, Hungary and Italy.

Without any doubt, England go in as favorites into this fixture.
