(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) By Abdullah Buqus KUALA LUMPUR, May 27 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's embassy in Malaysia has launched its annual project to provide "iftar" to fasting Muslims, the meal eaten after sunset during the holy month of Ramadan to break the day's fast.
"We are in the process of distributing more than 5,300 iftar meals to mosques, orphanages, schools, among other places," Saad Al-Asousi, Kuwait's ambassador to the Southeast Asian monarchy, told KUNA outside a sprawling mosque in the Malaysian capital on Sunday.
He said that Muslims flock to the mosque in droves just in time to break their fast with a nutrient-dense yet scrumptious meal, pointing out that the endeavor, which costs USD 25,000, is not limited to Kuala Lumpur but encompasses remote villages as well.
"This has been an auspicious year for Kuwaiti philanthropy, with the humanitarian leader His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at the helm," the envoy added.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Jamil, a local Muslim religious leader known as "imam", emphasized that the recipients of the meals are grateful for the aid, saying that similar altruistic acts on the part of the Kuwaiti embassy are in store. (end) aab.nam
