Oman wins top award at World Summit on the Information Society in Geneva


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Geneva- Oman won a top award at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Geneva, Switzerland,on Tuesday.

Oman, represented by the Ministry of Education (MoE), received the WSIS award in the 'Access to Information and Knowledge' category for Parent Application.

'The WSIS Awards represent an international standard for honouring and appreciating the efforts of individuals, governments, civil society organisations, research institutions and private sector companies. We are proud of the projects that have been honoured at the WSIS Awards over the years. Congratulations to MoE for winning today [Tuesday] in one of the categories,' said Dr Salim bin Sultan al Ruzaiqi, CEO of Information Technology Authority (ITA).

Oman is taking part in WSIS with an official delegation comprising officials from ITA, MoE and the Ministry of Transport and Communications. The agenda of the delegation includes meetings with International Telecommunication Union officials and submission of specialised papers on cybersecurity and electronic services.

The four-day summit will conclude on Thursday.
