Pope Francis to make first papal visit in 40 years to Ireland


(MENAFN) Pope Francis was revealed to be embarking on a trip to Ireland in August, marking the first papal trip to Ireland in nearly forty years.

Dublin is to welcome the Pope as he plans to be present at its World Meeting of Families, which is a worldwide Catholic event.

The Pope was also announced to be participating in the 'Festival of Families' in Croke Park, which is the Gaelic Athletic Association's (GAA) headquarters.

Ireland has last received a papal visit in 1979 when Pope John Paul II headed for the country, attractive more than 2.5 million people.
