DOHA: Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) has provided a humanitarian grant to support the water and sanitation sector in Mosul City and its surroundings, focusing on the rehabilitation of water networks in the region, distribution networks and water supply stations.
The agreement was signed by Misfer bin Hamad Al Shahwani, QFFD's Executive Director of Development Projects Department, and Geert Cappelaere, Unicef Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, on behalf of Unicef.
The grant aims at enhancing water quality control in Mosul, improving water, sanitation and hygiene facilities in Primary Healthcare Centers, improving them in primary schools and developing a Water Safety Plan for the Ninewa Governorate.
Furthermore, the project also aims at providing children and their families with access to adequate and safe water services in their areas of return and access to sanitation services in health and education facilities. In addition, it is designed to strengthen the role of the Water Directorate in Nineveh Governorate and build its capacity to provide integrated water resources. said Misfer Bin Hamad Al Shahwani, QFFD's Executive Director of Development Projects Department.

'
It is worth mentioning that the project will be implemented in cooperation with UNICEF and Qatar Red Crescent to support water and sanitation sector for displaced civilians returning home to and around Mosul.
