(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Ramallah, Feb 19 (Petra) –– Israel's ministerial legislative committee Sunday evening decided to back proposed legislation that allows the revocation of the residency permits of Palestinians living in occupied Jerusalem and the Golan Heights, according to Israeli media.
The leftist Haaretz daily reported today that under the bill, Palestinians involved in activities against the occupation will have their permits revoked. The law comes ten years after Israel's Supreme Court repealed a decision to strip four East Jerusalem Palestinians of their residency.
In case the new law takes effect, it said, the occupation forces will have the authority to expel Palestinians, adding that the interior ministry had put forward the proposal and the ministers decided to support it along with a private bill presented by Likud member of the Knesset, Amir Ohana.
The bill was put forward in response to a Supreme Court ruling in September, 2017, to repeal a previous decision to cancel the residency permits of four Palestinians from East Jerusalem.
