DGSN Shares Strategy to Strengthen its Commitment to Moroccan Citizens


(MENAFN- Morocco World News) Rabat – Morocco's General Directorate for National Security () shared with the public on Friday the achievements of its security activities over the course of 2017.

The statement issued by the General Directorate addresses new and changing security demands within Morocco while reaffirming the commitment to protect and serve Moroccan citizens. Additionally, DGSN will implement a new modernization strategy that reinforces proximity with .

According to the December 22 press release, six new Regional for Intervention (BRI) were established in 2017, bringing the total number of BRI created to 13 during 2016-2017. Several Central Crisis Intervention Brigades specializing in security and criminal enforcement affairs were also established during this period, as well as about 20 new criminal intelligence teams. The statement added that DGSN has also renovated various security infrastructure assets, material and equipment in several cities across the country.

Joint Cooperation in the Fight Against Crimes Working in collaboration with international security agencies, DGSN was able to solve several criminal cases. About 559,000 intervention operations were conducted, and more than 538,344 individuals were presented before the court in 2017. This figure includes 38,358 women and 22,236 teens. The total number of people arrested this year represents an increase of 4.5 percent from 2016.

International Security Collaborations DGSN has strengthened bilateral cooperation and coordination mechanisms with key allies like Spain and the US, as well as with regional security institutions like the African Union and Europol. In August, Spanish Interior Minister hailed Morocco's security strategy against terrorism and extremism. He also stressed the importance of joint cooperation between Morocco and Spain to fight terrorism and terror financing.

Public Security Operations DGSN's statement revealed that that the number of people who filed complaints in its branches increased by seven percent in 2017. The statement also indicated a ten percent increase in the number of schools facing security measures by its services, including nearly 7000 public safety awareness visits benefiting 804,175 students. Preventive enforcement measures carried out near schools in 2017 resulted in the arrest of 6711 persons who were involved or suspected of involvement in 5785 criminal cases.

Reform of Security Facilities and Equipment Structural reform and modernization of security facilities was also included in the DGSN's strategic plan. To increase its investigative capabilities, the Central Directorate of Judicial Police now has technology resources like the Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems (AFIS) as well as direct support from the National Center for Police Dogs. The Central Directorate, which manages all the information and intelligence for the nation's national security infrastructure, has also been restructured.

Administration, Recruitment and Training Reforms

In 2017, DGSN launched several recruitment campaigns. In July, police institutes and training centers across Morocco received 5100 candidates who had passed the 2016 recruitment tests. Sixty-nine new employees were hired in accordance with a new recruitment program that seeks to expand employment opportunities for young people interested in the security services and national security.
