(JFI), a nationally recognized leader in youth suicide awareness and prevention, announced that three new training modules have been added to their Online Professional Development Library.The training modules are suitable for school personnel, youth workers, first responders, parents and any adults who interact with young people.The trainings help teach the user to recognize a young person who may be struggling, how to approach that youth, and what resources are available for help.

The Library contains multiple two-hour trainings that extensively delve into aspects of youth suicide.The one-hour modules discuss how different topics relate to youth suicide.The three new one-hour modules examine the following topics:
looks at depression in youth.Childhood and teen depression differs greatly from adult depression in many aspects.Depression is one of the leading causes of suicide attempts.
discusses creating an action plan for the aftermath of a suicide. There are many actions that schools should avoid in the wake of a student suicide. The presenters examine the scope and magnitude of people that are affected by a suicide.
examines how suicide affects the LGBTQ community. LGBTQ students are more likely to have suicidal thoughts and attempts than their heterosexual peers.The school environment can have an enormous impact on a young person's life.
Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for ages 10-24. (2015 CDC WISQARS) Four out of five young people contemplating suicide show clear warning signs prior to the attempt. It is imperative that everyone knows how to recognize signs of concern of at-risk youth and are prepared to react should they see these signs.
