'Another Waziristan' in the making in Badakhshah: MP

(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): A Mesharano Jirga member, who recently traveled to northeastern Badakhshan province, on Sunday claimed Khastak village of Juram district there had become €˜a safe haven€™ for foreign terrorists.

Gulalai Akbari, a senator from Badakhshan, told reporters in Kabul that foreign terrorist had established a base in Khastak village, which she called €˜another Waziristan.€™

She said more than 1,000 foreign militants lived in the village in their hideouts, posing a huge danger to security of Badakhshan and Afghanistan at large.

She went on to claim that Al Qaeda, Taliban and Daesh rebels all had complete coordination in carrying out their attacks €˜with support Russia.€™

€œEnough evidence is available that Russia is helping the Taliban in Badakhshan province to enable them to fight against Daesh, but the Afghan government and Russia have ignored that Taliban and Daesh have complete coordination in their destructive agenda.€

Akbari claimed militants were trying to capture Wakhan and Ishkashim districts that bordered China and Pakistan.

Earlier, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah during a trip to Badakhshan on Saturday said the government would utilize all resources for maintaining security across the country.

Talking to a crowd of people in Baharak district, Abdullah said Afghanistan was faced with international terrorism from four corners of the world. The global terrorism mostly focused on Badakhshan province.

However, he said, the Afghan government had a strong will for maintaining security and eliminating terrorism. €œThere should be no doubts about the government for defending the country,€ he added.
