Jordan- Foreign minister takes part in Davos panel on Syria and Iraq conflict

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Davos, Jan. 20 (Petra) – Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi on Friday took part in a panel discussion on ending the conflict in Syria and Iraq, and held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.

During the session, Safadi spoke about Jordan's view to end the conflict in these two countries and ways to achieve peace and stability in the region as a whole. Safadi focused on the Palestinian cause and the Syrian crisis.

Jordan, the minister said, supports any effort to end fighting and hostile actions in Syria, adding that there is a need to launch a political process that comes up with a peaceful solution and ends fighting within the Geneva talks.

"Any agreement to end fighting in Syria must cover all Syrian territories," Safadi said. He noted that reconstruction plans in Syria must include schemes to rehabilitate and educate Syrian refugees and displaced persons, to be able to contribute to the reconstruction of their country when they return. Jordan and other host countries, the minister noted, must be supported to meet the needs for education among Syrian refugees, adding that this is an investment in the future.

Reconstruction must not be limited to buildings and streets, but must focus on building capacity and brains of people who were exhausted by the crisis.
