Undeterred by the lack of financial support, Oman's talented karting champion Shihab al Habsi is determined to gain exposure and experience by rubbing shoulders against the world's best go-karting drivers.

The 12 year old Muscat-based racer is all set to compete in the highly-competitive fourth and final round of the WSK Super Master Series in the Italian town of Adria in Rovigo from Thursday.

The main race will take place on Sunday. He is the youngest among the 73 drivers competing in the OK Junior (OKJ) class in Adria. Shihab will be racing for Baby Race SRL team in a Tony Kart.

The OKJ class is making its debut in the series this year. Moroccan Sami Taoufik (FA-Vortex-Vega), Dutch Noah Watt (Tony Kart-Vortex) and the Spanish David Vidales (Energy-TM) are among the favourites.

Shihab has already made a mark in regional events, having won the overall title of the UAE Rotax Max Challenge Series last month. Shihab's father and manager Ahmed al Habsi is keen to provide top-class exposure to the young talent.

As part of the plans, Shihab took part in the first round of the Italian ACI Karting Championship that was held at the 7 Laghi Kart International Circuit in Castelletto, Italy last month. Though Shihab failed to finish among the top ten racers, Ahmed believes that there is a bright future in store for him.

'He can improve by competing in top-class races and this is the reason why Shihab is participating in the WSK Super Master Series' final round in Adria,' said Ahmed.

'It was difficult to arrange money for the trip as we do not have any major sponsor. But, the priority is to get Shihab take part in more races to showcase his potential. I managed to arrange this trip with great difficulty.

'During the races, experienced coaches and experts have spoken highly about his talent. I hope he can one day excel at the top races and make Oman proud,' said Ahmed. Shihab has already qualified for the CIK-FIA World Championship for Junior, which will be held at the Sakhir International Circuit in Bahrain in November.
