France- Hollande condemns violence in Ukraine over electoral reforms


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) French President Francois Hollande has condemned the violence and the death of several policemen during Ukraine's parliamentary reform process and debate on a new law to give more autonomy to rebellious Eastern Ukraine, which is supported by Russia, a statement said Wednesday.
Ukraine on Sunday amended is constitution to grant ethnic-Russians in Eastern Ukraine more say over their regional affairs, a move supported by Russia but also by France and Germany who together form the "Normandy Group" working to end the Ukrainian conflict.
Three policemen died in a grenade attack on Sunday in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, and more than 20 people were injured as opponents of the reforms demonstrated in front of the parliament.
Hollande expressed again Wednesday "full solidarity with President (Petro) Porochenko, the Ukrainian authorities and the entire population in these difficult times," the statement said.
Last week, Hollande spoke with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Russian President Vladimir Putin and they agreed a new "Normandy Format" summit meeting should be held in the coming weeks.
