Dubai - About 1000 fire alarms 986 lifts and 802 gas pumps in Dubai buildings have some faults in their safety systems a top official from the Dubai Civil Defence revealed.
Major-General Rashid Thani Al Matroushi Director of the Dubai Civil Defence on Monday said the main challenge faced by firefighters while battling fires in high-rises is the obstruction of fire exits. He said the managements of many buildings were fined between Dh10000 to Dh100000.
According to the civil defence’s annual report Jebel Ali is the riskiest place when it comes to fire safety followed by Bur Dubai.
The 24x7 Direct Alarm System is now mandatory in all buildings. With the system the civil defence will be able to electronically monitor buildings in real time.
The system has been installed in 70000 houses built as part the Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Housing Programme.
The civil defence is eyeing another 47000 buildings which will be fitted with the system.
