Saudi Arabia grants Jordan two donations totaling USD 80 mln


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Jordanian government and the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) signed on Tuesday two grant agreements worth USD 80 million, to help implement a fiber optic and infrastructure project in industrial cities in Tafila, Madaba, Jarash and Salt governorates.

The agreement, within the second phase of Saudi Arabia's share of GCC funding of development in Jordan, were signed by Jordanian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury and SFD Vice Chairman and Managing Director Yousef Al-Bassam. Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour attended the signing ceremony.

SDF will donate USD 30 million for the industrial cities infrastructure, while USD 50 million will be for the fiber optics project which would connect various government institutes, in the education and health sectors.

Ensour expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia for its continued support to Jordan, stressing the importance of the agreements, in terms of providing schools and hospitals in the Kingdom with basic services using modern technology.

The Saudi official praised the government efforts in economic and social fields, confirming his country's continued support for development projects in Jordan through the SFD.

Under Gulf Development Fund Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Qatar allocated USD five billions to implement economic projects in Jordan for the next five years.
