Iran anxious over terrorist attacks across Iraq

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Iran on Tuesday strongly condemned a terrorist attack in Iraq's northern city of Mosul, expressing anxiety over the series of ongoing attacks across the country as a whole. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham regarded the spread of terrorist incidents in Iraq is a flagrant example of the "transnational threat" of terrorism, urging governments and international bodies to stand by the Iraqi government during this "current critical situation." Pledging Iran's support of the Iraqi government, she emphasized the need for Iraq to strengthen its national unity and political group convergence, which in turn, will play a "very important and effective" role in fighting terrorists. She also hoped joint efforts by Iraq's army, security forces and people would counter terrorist moves and would restore security and peace. Armed militants belonging to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant took control of the governor's headquarters, prisons and television stations in the city Mosul, the capital of the Nineveh Province, Monday night. The incident has prompted Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki to announce a heightened state of emergency.
