(MENAFNEditorial) Dutch car-sharing company chooses Onfido for its long-term scalability and smooth user experience
16th March 2018, LONDON: Leading identity verification provider Onfido today announces that it has partnered with car-sharing platform SnappCar to verify its users in The Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden and Germany. SnappCar joins Onfido's growing roster of leading clients in the P2P car sharing space, including Drivy, BlaBlaCar, EasyCar and Turo.
SnappCar, ‘the Airbnb for cars', launched in 2011 and now services 400,000 users in 4 countries across Europe. Car owners who use the platform recoup the cost of their vehicle by renting it out when it would otherwise sit unused. Having recently moved into new European markets, SnappCar partnered with Onfido to support its plans for further international expansion.
Onfido's technology will empower SnappCar to scale by verifying the identities of users signing up to the platform in a rapid and robust way. SnappCar users can simply upload a photo of an identity document to complete the verification process, allowing more people to join the service more quickly.
Onfido's ability to service global users by accepting 600 document types across 192 territories was a key consideration for SnappCar in choosing a partner. The company's use of machine learning - enabling them to grow quickly into new territories - was a particularly important factor and one that SnappCar's previous provider was unable to offer.
"Onfido improves the speed of our identity verification process. They enable us to be much more flexible in adapting the verification criteria, which means a better verification experience for our international userbase," said Erica Rasch, Product Owner at SnappCar.
"We are very happy to be supporting SnappCar's global growth," said Husayn Kassai, CEO and co-founder at Onfido. "We bring trust to digital interactions worldwide, and we're excited to be partnering with a company that's equally ambitious. We pride ourselves on delivering an experience that's as rapid as it is robust, and look forward to helping SnappCar welcome more users onboard, wherever in the world they are."
Onfido builds trust in an online world by helping businesses digitally verify people's identities. Using machine learning technology, Onfido validates a user's identity document and compares it with their facial biometrics. The identity can then be cross-referenced against international credit and watchlist databases. Founded by three entrepreneurs from Oxford University, Onfido has received over $30m in funding from investors including Salesforce Ventures and Idinvest Partners . We carry out checks in 195 countries for global customers including JustGiving, BlaBlaCar and Couchsurfing.
SnappCar, Europe's second largest carsharing platform, is convinced that inefficiency is wasteful. SnappCar intends to reduce the number of cars owned in Europe by 5 million by 2022, freeing parking spaces and saving several million tonnes of CO2. Established in 2011, the company has more than 400,000 customers in the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and Sweden in 2018, using more than 45,000 cars in a simple, reliable and pleasant way. SnappCar, headquartered in Utrecht, the Netherlands, has offices in Berlin, Stockholm and Copenhagen.
