Doha, Qatar: All hands are on deck, and everything is prepared to host a remarkable Qatar T100 Triathlon World Championship Final Week, the first of its kind in the nation, the organisers have stated.

Addressing a press conference yesterday, organised by Visit Qatar, the Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO), and the Qatar Triathlon Federation, which officially announced the commencement of the Qatar T100 Triathlon World Championship Final Week, the organisers confirmed Doha's readiness to welcome some of the world's top triathletes from December 10 to 13 in Lusail City.

The press conference was attended by the President of World Triathlon, Antonio Arimany; the CEO of the Professional Triathletes Organisation, Sam Renouf; and the President of the Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation, Abdulaziz Al Tamimi..

The event also gathered elite international athletes, including the current T100 series leaders heading to Qatar, Hayden Wilde and Kate Waugh, along with Vincent Luis and Julie Derron, as well as Qatari athlete Aliya Al-Hamad, who will participate in the championship.

During an interview on the periphery of the press conference, Waugh, who is poised to be named the overall champion should she secure victory in Doha, revealed that she did not possess any particular expectations as she entered this series.

“I just wanted to give it a go and see how I would do. I had an idea that I might be good at it [middle distance racing], but I always kind of felt like I was a strong, well-rounded triathlete across swim, bike, and run.”

“Winning my first one kind of set the bar high! I'm really happy that I've been consistent this year and been on the podium, so hopefully I can finish the year on a high and continue that streak.”

She added that she is obviously feeling the pressure and would love to put the icing on the cake on Friday and finish what she started.

“But the competition is super tough,” the British Olympian said.

For Qatari athlete Aliya Al Hamad, participating in the event represents an exciting development in her career.“I'm delighted to fly the flag of Qatar at the competition. Having the T100 in my own country gave me the courage to try something new. It is a remarkable opportunity for anyone who loves endurance sports to participate in and experience a major global event,” she said.

The series of races has kicked off on December 10 with the Qatar T100 Kick Off Run. The run took place along Lusail Boulevard.

Yesterday, the event and fan village opened at the Lusail Plaza. Throughout the weekend, visitors will be able to enjoy an active and engaging environment suitable for families and spectators of all ages.

Professional racing begins today, December 12. Today's schedule also includes youth and community moments, beginning with the Youth Super Sprint Triathlon at 6:30am, the Women's Pro T100 race at 10am, the Men's Pro T100 race at 12:35pm, Pro Men's and Women's Awards Ceremony at 4pm and a Celebration Walk and Opening Ceremony for T100 Age Group World Championships at 4:45pm that will welcome participants of the T100 Age Group World Championships, representing 45 countries.

The inaugural T100 Age Group World Championship will take place on Saturday, December 13, offering amateur athletes the chance to compete for world titles. The day begins at 4:30pm with the amateur 100km races (2km swim, 80km bike, 18km run), followed by a 10:30am start for the Sprint Triathlon (750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run). Then Amateur Sprint distance Awards Ceremony from 1:45pm till 2:15pm followed by Amateur 100km distance Awards Ceremony from 3:30pm till 4pm.
