GITEX Global tech event kicks off in Dubai

(MENAFN) The 45th edition of GITEX Global, one of the world’s premier technology events, concluded in Dubai from October 13–17, spotlighting critical innovations set to shape the future, including artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum computing.

The event drew more than 6,800 companies from 180 countries to the Dubai World Trade Center. Major tech players such as Google, Huawei, IBM, and Microsoft shared the stage with over 40 unicorns — startups valued at more than $1 billion.

Approximately 2,000 startups participated, with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman joining via online call to discuss AI and related technologies, alongside other industry experts. Around 80% of attendees came from outside the UAE, highlighting the event’s international diversity.

Several nations presented pavilions to showcase their technology capabilities, including Türkiye, which had 60 firms in sectors ranging from cybersecurity and fintech to AI and robotics. The Turkish Industry and Technology Ministry, alongside the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye Investment Office, participated for the first time with the joint pavilion “Turcorn–Invest in Türkiye.” This initiative aimed to enhance Türkiye’s global image as an innovation hub while creating opportunities for domestic startups and international partnerships.

The ministry also brought together potential “Turcorn” (Turkish unicorn) startups with foreign investors under the Turcorn 100 program during the event.

Looking ahead, the next edition will be held in Istanbul under the banner “GITEX Ai Türkiye” from September 9–10, 2026.

Trixie LohMirmand, executive vice president of the Dubai World Trade Center, said in a statement, “Emerging smart economies, which are a part of GITEX Global in four continents and 14 countries, will influence the global narrative on AI.”
