Wave of Ukrainian drones hit residential buildings in Russia
(MENAFN) Reports indicate that a series of Ukrainian drone strikes targeted residential buildings in Rostov-on-Don, a city of over one million located roughly 250 kilometers from the conflict front, early Thursday. Local authorities confirmed that at least 13 people were injured.
Rostov Region Governor Yuri Slyusar said in a Telegram post that the drones damaged 10 multi-story buildings and several vehicles. Six people were hospitalized, including two children.
A video circulating online shows a plane-type UAV gliding into the city before crashing into the top of an apartment complex, producing a loud explosion and a column of smoke. Other images from the scene show shattered glass and damaged balconies.
Slyusar added that 212 residents were evacuated to a temporary accommodation center. A municipal commission will evaluate the damage once experts finish their work on site.
Ukrainian forces have been increasingly using long-range drones to strike residential zones and critical infrastructure across Russia. Moscow has retaliated with high-precision attacks on Ukrainian military facilities, insisting that civilians are not targeted.
The attacks occurred just ahead of a scheduled summit in Alaska on Friday between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, where a potential peace deal for Ukraine is expected to be discussed.
