NATO Political Committee Discusses Ukraine's Needs Toward Sustainable Peace

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Deputy Minister of Defense Serhiy Boiev and participants in the NATO Political Committee meeting discussed strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities as a guarantee of lasting peace.

That's according to the MoD press service, Ukrinform reports.

The Deputy Minister of Defense said that, despite the negotiation process that has begun, Russia's strategic goals remain unchanged, which is the destruction of the Ukrainian state. This is evidenced by the increase in the production of long-range weapons, deployment of additional troops in Ukraine, and formation of new strategic reserve units.

"We are interested more than anyone else in establishing a long-term sustainable peace based on real security guarantees for Ukraine. However, today we are not seeing evidence of a desire for peace in Russia's actions. Therefore, we call on partners not to lose focus and continue to support Ukraine," Boiev noted.

He emphasized that Ukraine's current needs remain to increase the capabilities of the Ukrainian air and missile defense system, to provide the Defense Forces with artillery rounds, and to strengthen and develop the aviation component.

According to the official, a separate aspect of strengthening Ukraine's positions is the implementation of joint projects in the defense industry, as well as support for the Ukrainian defense companies, in particular within the framework of the“Danish model” mechanisms. Boiev emphasized that the capabilities of the Ukrainian defense industry allow for the annual production of defense goods worth $35 billion, a third of which covers unmanned and robotic systems.

“Our experience of scaling and our achievements in this area are certainly of interest to partners,” the Deputy Minister concluded.

During the meeting, the parties separately discussed the issue of continued support for the training of the Ukrainian military in accordance with NATO standards.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, referring to the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, the EU plans to supply Ukraine with at least 2 million ammunition rounds per year.
