Art robbery thieves use explosives to steal from museum

(MENAFN) Thieves have used explosives to break into the Drents Museum in Assen, Netherlands, stealing valuable Romanian gold and silver artifacts. The burglary occurred early on Saturday morning, with reports of an explosion leading authorities to discover the theft of several ancient items. The stolen treasures include a 2,400-year-old golden helmet from Cotofenesti, considered a national treasure of Romania, and three golden bracelets from around 50 BC. These items were part of a "Dacia: Rich in gold and silver" exhibit, featuring over 200 artifacts loaned from Romanian museums.

Police believe multiple suspects were involved, and Interpol is now assisting with the investigation. This heist follows a series of similar crimes in the Netherlands, including a recent art robbery in Oisterwijk. Romania’s Prime Minister has mobilized a crisis team to work with Dutch authorities to recover the stolen items and ensure the return of the rest of the collection.
