KUWAIT, Dec 12 (KUNA) -- Driven by the state of Kuwait's pursuit of development and sovereign directives of expediting achievements, the cabinet issued decree 151 for the year 2024 broadening role of governorates, and ensuring more active contribution.
Back in the 1960s Kuwait had been administratively divided into three governorates; Kuwait City, Hawally and Al-Ahmadi. In the year 1979 Al-Jahraa became the fourth governorate, followed by Al-Farwaniya in 1988 and Mubarak Al-Kabeer in 1999.
Throughout the years, decrees have been issued to better allocate governors' tasks, duties and specializations, as they are considered representatives of the executive authority and an asset to facilitating services.
Decree 151, issued in September 4, assigned each governorate a council headed by its governor. The decree tasked concerned ministers with coordinating with governors' in nominating ministry representatives to become council members, while governors are tasked with organizing workflow and mechanisms.
This allows governors a more active role in overseeing policy implementation, following up on projects, and contributing to providing better services in all governorates.
As governors are a connecting point between citizens and government bodies, the cabinet issued a decision charging ministers with coordinating with governors to pinpoint citizens' needs and requirements.
This also allows for enabling governorate authority over government entities, permitting effective supervision and monitoring of performance.
Each governor is to study and examine needs and projects of their governorate, as well as offer suggestions enabling accomplishment of duties.
These newly adopted policies sponsor sense of creativity and innovation through putting forth initiatives, and promoting major transformations.
The role of governors is not exclusive to economic development but extends to social development as well.
Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy and State Minister for Residential Affairs Dr. Mahmoud Bushehri, issued decision tasking Al-Ahmadi governor Sheikh Homoud Jaber Al-Sabah with heading higher committee for green initiatives, in cooperation with public and private sector concerned bodies.
In April of 2024, an Amiri decree was issued appointing five governors for Al-Farwaniya, Kuwait City, Mubarak Al-Kabeer, Al-Ahmadi and Al-Jahraa.
Lately, field visits have been conducted to look closely at ongoing projects, and ascertain requirements for enhancing and expediting projects.
Governors' specialties of overseeing state facilities, implementation of laws and allowing for active supervision, makes them a cornerstone to diagnosing issues and putting forth initiatives.
His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah has affirmed that Kuwait is entering an era of progress and accomplishment, benefiting all citizens. (end)
