U.S. President announces that US working with UN will ramp up efforts to achieve ceasefire in Gaza

(MENAFN) On Tuesday, U.S. President Joe Biden announced that the United States, working with the United Nations, will ramp up efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza. He also welcomed the cessation of hostilities between Lebanon and Israel.

Biden emphasized that Hamas now has a critical choice: to release the hostages, including American citizens, it holds and end the violence, which would enable more humanitarian aid to reach the region. He further mentioned that the U.S. is collaborating with countries like Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, and Israel to negotiate a ceasefire in Gaza, which would include hostages' release and the termination of the conflict, ultimately weakening Hamas’s hold.

Biden confirmed that the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel came into effect at dawn on Wednesday, following approval by both countries. He stated that the agreement would be fully enforced, with no U.S. military presence in southern Lebanon. Biden also affirmed Israel’s right to defend itself if Hezbollah violates the ceasefire. He highlighted that the agreement upholds Lebanon’s sovereignty, marking a fresh start for the country and steering its people toward peace.
