(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) GENEVA, Oct 17 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti representative at the United Nations, Counsellor Abdullah Al-Khubaizi, warned of the ramifications of the augmenting humanitarian crises in the region on refugee's basic rights, as he also condemned the use of illegal methods of starvation and block of aid as war weapons.
During the 75th refugee agency meeting in Geneva, Al-Khubaizi called on the international community to take a serious stance and guarantee the rights of war victims.
Al-Khubaizi also stressed the need to face challenges undermining regional and international stability and security, especially as the region undergoes recurring crises leaving behind unprecedented number of refugees in blatant disregard of international laws.
He further underlined the importance of reforming the Security Council to enhance response to crises becoming more efficient and comprehensive, stating that the waning of confidence in the UN's efficiency is hurting its integrity.
Counsellor Al-Khubaizi renewed Kuwait's commitment to host countries of refugees, and to sharing responsibilities and burdens, saying that Kuwait is keen on extending a helping hand to all those in need.
Total Kuwaiti aid to UNHCR alone reached USD 500 million over the past 10 years, he added.
