Modi demands peace in Middle East, Eurasia

(MENAFN) At the 19th East Asia Summit in Laos, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored the urgent need for peace in regions experiencing turmoil, particularly in the Global South. He expressed concern that ongoing conflicts worldwide disproportionately affect these nations and reiterated India's commitment to resolving military disputes through “dialogue and diplomacy” rather than armed confrontation.

Modi articulated that everyone desires a swift restoration of peace and stability, whether in Eurasia or West Asia. Drawing from the philosophical heritage of his homeland, he stated, "I come from the land of Buddha and have repeatedly asserted that this is not the era of war. Solutions to problems cannot emerge from the battlefield." His comments reflect a broader call for respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and adherence to international laws, advocating for a humanitarian approach that prioritizes dialogue.

Highlighting India's role as a global partner, Modi referred to the nation’s commitment to being a "Vishwabhadhu" or friend to the world, indicating that India will continue to contribute to peace efforts in every feasible manner. This message is particularly relevant as New Delhi positions itself as a proactive player in the ongoing Ukraine conflict. Modi has engaged in multiple discussions with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in recent months, advocating for a diplomatic resolution to the crisis.

Since June, Modi has met with Zelensky several times, including face-to-face interactions in Kyiv and on the sidelines of international gatherings in the United States. Throughout these engagements, he has consistently emphasized the need for a diplomatic approach to conflict resolution, maintaining that both Russia and Ukraine should be integral participants in negotiations.

As global tensions continue to rise, Modi's statements serve as a reminder of the importance of collaborative efforts to foster peace and stability in regions facing the brunt of conflict. His call for dialogue and respect for international norms reflects India’s broader foreign policy objectives and its aspirations to contribute positively to global peace initiatives.
