Media outlets linked to Ansar Allah (Houthi) movement reports series of airstrikes in Yemen

(MENAFN) Early Thursday, media outlets linked to the Ansar Allah (Houthi) movement reported a series of airstrikes in Yemen, attributed to coordinated efforts by the United States and Britain. These strikes reportedly hit nine distinct locations across the country, focusing on areas both north and south of the capital, Sanaa, as well as regions like Kahlan and Al-Ela, situated to the east of Saada city.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin confirmed the airstrikes, detailing that the US Air Force executed precision attacks targeting five underground weapons storage facilities controlled by the Houthis. Austin emphasized that these operations were aimed at dismantling facilities used by the Houthis for launching assaults on maritime vessels, asserting that the US is committed to taking necessary actions to deter Houthi aggression and maintain freedom of navigation in the region.

The strikes were conducted with the approval of President Joe Biden and involved the deployment of B-2 bombers, which are notably larger than typical fighter jets, enabling them to carry a significantly larger payload of munitions. Austin portrayed the airstrikes as a clear demonstration of the US’s ability to engage adversarial facilities, irrespective of their depth underground or the strength of their defenses.

In response, Nasreddin Amer, the deputy head of the Houthi Media Authority, issued a stern warning that the United States would encounter repercussions for its military actions. He reaffirmed the Houthis' strong solidarity with Palestine, particularly in support of the populations in Gaza and Lebanon, insisting that their commitment would remain steadfast despite foreign military interventions.

These developments highlight the escalating tensions in the region and underscore the complex dynamics of the ongoing conflict in Yemen. The Houthis’ reaction, combined with US declarations of military prowess, reflects a volatile situation that continues to unfold amidst the backdrop of broader geopolitical conflicts.
