TAP Reveals Number Of Operators Authorized To Book Its Capacity

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 26. Today, 43 transmission system operators are authorized to book capacity from the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), Luca Schieppati, TAP's Managing Director, said at the Italian energy Summit, Trend reports.

“Our technical and commercial attractiveness and flexibility have been recognized by operators: today, 43 are authorized to book capacity from the pipeline,” he said.

Schieppati noted that TAP has ensured the security of European supplies by transporting just under 40 billion cubic meters of gas, of which 32.8 billion cubic meters accounted for in Italy.

“It is the country's second largest import source with a share of over 15 percent,” added the managing director.

He went on to add that TAP will increase its transport capacity by 1.2 billion cubic meters per year from the beginning of 2026.

“This confirms the possibility of expanding capacity based on market interest,” he added.

TAP transports natural gas from the giant Shah Deniz field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea to Europe. The 877 km long pipeline connects with the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) at the Turkish-Greek border in Kipoi, crosses Greece and Albania and the Adriatic Sea, before coming ashore in Southern Italy.

TAP facilitates gas supplies to Southeastern European countries through existing and prospective interconnectors. TAP is connected to Interconnector Greece Bulgaria (IGB) which started its commercial operations in October 2022, providing Caspian gas to Bulgaria.

TAP's shareholding is comprised of bp (20%), SOCAR (20%), Snam (20%), Fluxys (20%), Enagás (20%).
