BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 13. The Central
Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan has taken decisive action
by upholding district election commissions' (DECs) rulings on
recent electoral disputes, invalidating results from several
polling stations, Trend reports.
In a pivotal meeting held today, the CEC reviewed and addressed
appeals from multiple candidates. Among the contested cases were
Aydin Abilov from Yasamal-3, Jahandar Ismayilov from
Nasimi-Yasamal, Sardar Ismayilov from Jabrayil-Gubadli, and Gulyagi
Aslanli of the Musavat Party from Nasimi-Binagadi.
The CEC rejected the appeals from three of the candidates,
affirming the decisions of the DECs. Notably, the results from
polling station No. 30 in Nasimi-Binagadi, challenged by Gulyagi
Aslanli, have been declared invalid. However, the CEC upheld all
other DEC rulings.
Additionally, results from polling stations No. 3, 4, and 18
were annulled following an appeal by Shahriyar Mammadzada from
Tartar-Agdere-Geranboy.
Despite these changes, the DEC's decisions for the remaining
polling stations have been confirmed.
To note, on September 1, snap parliamentary elections were held
in Azerbaijan.
A total of 112,749 local observers were registered to observe
the elections. More than 65,000 of them were representatives of
political parties. The number of registered international observers
was 598, representing 51 organizations and 69 countries.
Out of 990 registered candidates in the parliamentary elections,
305 were representatives of 25 political parties. Even though 371
candidates were affiliated with political parties, their respective
parties did not nominate them. A total of 676 candidates were
affiliated with a political party.
