BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 2. The
parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan have been held freely and
fairly, the member of the Youth Organization of the Non-Aligned
Movement (NAM) from Uganda, Jacob Eyeru, said at a press conference
on the results of the extraordinary parliamentary elections held on
September 1, Trend
reports.
“Our delegation witnessed high activity of citizens at polling
stations. The delegation affirms that the voting process at all
polling stations was transparent, free and fair elections were
held,” Eyeru said.
According to him, members of the delegation in six groups
conducted observations at several polling stations in Baku.
“Members of our delegation observed the process at several
polling stations in the 7th, 15th, 16th, and 17th constituencies
until the end of the voting. Overall, we took an active part in
monitoring each stage of the electoral process at 54 polling
stations,” Eyeru added.
To note, extraordinary parliamentary elections were held in
Azerbaijan on September 1.
According to preliminary data, voter turnout at the elections
amounted to 37.27 percent. The number of voters casting their
ballots amounted to 2,196,771. A total of 5,895 polling stations
submitted their protocols to the CEC.
A total of 112,749 domestic observers were registered to observe
the election. More than 65,000 of them were representatives of
political parties.
The number of registered international observers was 598,
representing 51 organizations, in 69 countries.
Out of 990 registered candidates in the parliamentary elections,
305 are representatives of 25 political parties. Whereas 371
candidates are members of political parties, they were not
nominated by the parties to which they belong. A total of 676
candidates have political party affiliation.
