Azerbaijan's Parliamentary Election Demonstrates High Voter Turnout - ICAAP (PHOTO)

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 2. High voter
activity was observed at the September 1 extraordinary
parliamentary election in Azerbaijan, the head of the International
Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAAP), Halil Ibrahim
Korkmaz, said at a press conference on the preliminary results of
the September 1 extraordinary parliamentary election in Azerbaijan,
Trend reports.
“We were pleased to scrutinize the election of 125 deputies to
Azerbaijan's Parliament. Election is a vital part of democracy. We
congratulate the Azerbaijani people on a fair election. This
election has a very important feature. Thus, 54 polling stations
were organized in the liberated territories, where voting in the
parliamentary election was held for the first time.
This became a reason for our pride. The brotherly Azerbaijani
people demonstrated high activity in the liberated territories.
Once the voting started on election day, we conducted observations
at 16 polling stations in different regions in the form of two
groups. We observed that everything was flawless in the elections.
We witnessed high electoral activity. No problems or violations
were observed during the election,” he added.
To note, extraordinary parliamentary election was held in
Azerbaijan on September 1.
According to preliminary data , voter turnout at
the elections amounted to 37.27 percent. The number of voters
casting their ballots amounted to 2,196,771. A total of 5,895
polling stations submitted their protocols to the CEC.
A total of 112,749 domestic observers were registered to observe
the election. More than 65,000 of them were representatives of
political parties.
The number of registered international observers was 598,
representing 51 organizations in 69 countries.
Out of 990 registered candidates in the parliamentary elections,
305 are representatives of 25 political parties. Whereas 371
candidates are members of political parties, they were not
nominated by the parties to which they belong. A total of 676
candidates have political party affiliation.
