Biden requests survey on Harris’ popularity

(MENAFN) United States President Joe Biden has initiated a survey to assess the popularity of Vice President Kamala Harris, according to ABC News, which cites an anonymous senior administration official. This move comes amid growing scrutiny of Biden’s fitness for a second term, especially following a faltering performance at a recent news agency debate against Republican frontrunner Donald Trump. During the debate, Biden struggled with his words, lost his train of thought, and had difficulty completing his sentences, raising questions about his ability to handle another presidential term.

The official, who wished to remain unnamed, conveyed that Biden, despite maintaining a confident public demeanor, has become more receptive to suggestions that he should consider stepping down from the presidential race before the November 5 election. This sentiment appears to be reflected in the President's current state of exhaustion and his recent COVID-19 diagnosis, which has forced him into isolation and prompted the cancellation of a campaign event in Las Vegas. The diagnosis, according to the White House staffer, might offer Biden a chance to regroup and reflect while recovering at his home in Delaware.

In parallel, a recent poll conducted by the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research revealed differing views on Harris' suitability as a potential successor to Biden. The survey, which was carried out between July 11 and July 15 and included responses from 1,253 adults, found that around 60percentof Democrats believe Harris would be a good president. However, among the general United States population, only 30percentconsider her a viable replacement for Biden. This disparity underscores ongoing concerns about Harris' popularity and the broader implications for the upcoming election.
