Qatar Central Bank Lists Steps Against Skimming, How To Identify Tampered ATM

Doha, Qatar: Qatar Central bank (QCB) warns individuals in the country against skimming devices used by cyber attackers to commit financial fraud.

Skimming devices are installed by attackers on ATMs, POS machines, and other card machines to capture card data and record any PINs entered by users.

QCB, on social media, has raised awareness of this scheme by educating users on how to identify a tampered machine and steps to prevent falling prey to skimming.

It advised users to utilize ATMs inside bank branches whenever possible, as these machines are less likely to be tampered with.

It also stated that users can try to wiggle the card reader to check if it is loose or out of place.

Users should also be observant and on look out for small, out-of-place attachments around the card slot of any device.

QCB also suggested users to block the keypad with the other hand when entering a PIN to prevent hidden cameras.

Lastly, it also warned to watch out for lingering individuals around ATM machines.
