In Finland, Law On Expulsion Of Refugees Come Into Force On July 22

Finnish President Alexander Stubb has signed the so-called law
on the expulsion of refugees, it will come into force on July 22,
Azernews reports.
"The law will come into force on July 22, 2024 and will be in
force for one year," the statement said.
On July 12, the Finnish Parliament approved in the second
reading the Law "On Temporary measures to combat instrumental
migration", implying the expulsion of refugees. The Finnish
authorities have previously stated that its adoption will allow
further consideration of the issue of opening a checkpoint on the
border with Russia. Interior Minister Marie Rantanen, after the
adoption of the law by parliament, said that Finland could open
crossing points on the border with Russia when the security
situation changes, but the adoption of the law itself "does not
guarantee" the opening of the border.
The law will come into force on July 22 and will be in force for
a year, the Finnish Interior Ministry said.
Interior Minister Rantanen previously noted that the use of such
a law presupposes the existence of good reasons, which are
currently absent. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo expressed the hope
that the law would not have to be applied in principle.
According to the document, the government will be able to restrict
the admission of refugees to a certain part of the border.
According to the Finnish authorities, asylum seekers are being used
as an instrument of influence by other States. Accordingly, under
the new law, refugees will not be able to enter the territory
specified by Helsinki and will be expelled. The law does not apply
to migrants in a particularly vulnerable situation.
