Turkish benchmark stock index closes Tuesday’s session at record high


(MENAFN) On Tuesday, the Turkish benchmark stock index closed at a record level of 11,139.34 points, reflecting an increase of 0.67 percent from the previous day. The BIST 100 index began the week at 11,109.68 points, gaining 74.49 points since Friday's close. The Borsa Istanbul was closed on Monday in observance of Democracy and National Unity Day, commemorating the eighth anniversary of the attempted coup on July 15, 2016.

Throughout the trading day, the index experienced fluctuations, with a low of 11,102.64 points and a peak of 11,188.12 points, the latter representing a historical high. By the end of the day, 47 indices had increased in value, while 48 saw declines. The total transaction volume reached approximately 101 billion Turkish liras (around USD3.06 billion), and the overall market capitalization of the index stood at 9.45 trillion liras (approximately USD287.15 billion).

As for currency exchange rates, the USD/TRY rate was recorded at 33.0720 as of 6:40 PM local time (15:40 GMT). The EUR/TRY rate was 35.9980, and the GBP/TRY rate stood at 42.8990. In commodities, the price of an ounce of gold was USD2,463.90, while Brent crude oil was priced at around USD83.30 per barrel. These figures indicate the ongoing dynamics of the Turkish financial market amid broader economic conditions.
