X explores "dislike" feature to improve response labels

(MENAFN) Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, is actively developing a downvote feature aimed at refining how replies to posts are ranked within its ecosystem. Although billionaire Elon Musk, who now leads X, has not officially confirmed the feature, recent indications suggest that it might resemble a traditional "dislike" button rather than the upvote-downvote system seen on platforms like Reddit.

According to reports from TechCrunch, a leading technology news website, references to the downvote feature were discovered in the X version of the IOS operating system. The icon for this feature is described as a "broken heart," contrasting with the familiar heart-shaped "Like" button. This design choice seems to emphasize the negative sentiment associated with the downvote action, aligning more closely with a "dislike" functionality rather than a nuanced voting system.

Previously, Twitter experimented with a similar feature back in 2021, contemplating the inclusion of both upvote and downvote buttons for all posts. In this new iteration of testing, however, the focus appears to be on incorporating a downvote button specifically to enhance the ranking of replies. The goal is to prioritize the most positively received replies by moving them to the top of reply threads, while pushing less popular responses towards the bottom.

TechCrunch also highlighted the potential of this feature to mitigate inflammatory content by discouraging users from posting content solely to provoke negative reactions. This approach aims to encourage more constructive interactions by discouraging engagement driven purely by provocative content.

The evolution of this downvote feature underscores X's ongoing efforts to refine its platform dynamics, potentially influencing user behavior and improving the overall quality of interactions within its community.
