US intelligence points to Iranian plan to kill Trump

(MENAFN) On Tuesday, news agency revealed that U.S. intelligence had recently uncovered a plot by Iran to assassinate former President Donald Trump. This discovery has significantly raised concerns among American officials about the safety of trump and other former members of his administration.

A U.S. official shared that the Secret Service had alerted Trump's campaign about the escalating threat. This notification highlights the ongoing dangers Trump faces even after leaving office.

Although the White House did not provide specific comments on the intelligence, it confirmed that there were no signs the suspect involved in the recent assassination attempt on Trump had any collaborators, either foreign or domestic. The attempt, which took place on Saturday, caused considerable alarm, but investigations suggest it was an isolated incident.

In reaction to the allegations, the Iranian government, via a statement on the "Kingdom" website, rejected the accusations as "tendentious and baseless." Despite long-standing suspicions and accusations from U.S. officials, Tehran has consistently denied involvement in assassination plots against American officials.

For years, U.S. authorities have been wary of potential Iranian retaliation for the January 2020 drone strike that killed Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani. The recent intelligence findings have only heightened these concerns.

Adrian Watson, spokeswoman for the National Security Council, reiterated that the U.S. has been tracking Iranian threats against former Trump administration officials for an extended period. She stated, "These threats are rooted in Iran's desire for revenge over the killing of Qassem Soleimani. We regard this as a matter of national and internal security and prioritize it accordingly."

In response to the growing threat, the National Security Council informed the Secret Service, which subsequently increased its protective measures for Trump by deploying additional resources and capabilities. This action underscores the gravity with which U.S. authorities are addressing the potential Iranian threat.
