Amman, June 28 (Petra)-- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi and his Lebanese counterpart Abdullah Bou Habib, discussed efforts to ease tension in southern Lebanon.
In a phone conversation on Friday with Bou Habib, Safadi cautioned about the risk of the violent Israeli attacks against Gaza spreading throughout the occupied West Bank, Lebanon, and the wider region.
Safadi emphasized that in order to preserve Lebanon's boundaries, sovereignty, and security, the international community must act swiftly to stop the escalation on the Lebanese-Israeli border.
Safadi emphasized the necessity of abiding by the pertinent peace Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 1701, in order to halt the escalation and keep the area from being drawn into another conflict that jeopardizes the peace and stability of the region and the world.
He emphasized that Jordan fully supports any initiatives aimed at lowering the escalation and stands by brotherly Lebanon, its security, stability, and the safety of its residents.
Safadi issued a warning, stating that there is a real and growing risk that the war will escalate due to Israel's ongoing aggression against Gaza, the humanitarian crisis that the Palestinian people are still experiencing, and the international community's inability to put an end to the aggression and force Israel to abide by international humanitarian law and international law.
Bou Habib emphasized that in order to stop the growing Israeli threats, Lebanon is depending on the support and solidarity of its Arab neighbors, particularly Jordan, as well as the UN and the international community.
Along with reaffirming support for the Lebanese army, Bou Habib emphasized Lebanon's unwavering pursuit of the success of current diplomatic solutions and mediations for the full implementation of Resolution 1701, with what this entails being an immediate end to Israeli military attacks, the process of demonstrating and establishing internationally recognized borders, and an end to violations and abuses of Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
