China claims that America exploiting Ukraine war as pretext for sanctions

(MENAFN) Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian criticized the United States on Thursday, accusing it of seizing upon the Ukraine crisis as a pretext to impose sanctions while simultaneously arming Kiev. Lin's comments came in response to recent announcements by the United States State and Treasury departments detailing a new round of sanctions targeting 300 additional individuals and entities across Russia, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, and notably, China-based companies involved in semiconductor sales to Moscow.

According to the United States Treasury Department, these sanctions aim to disrupt more than USD100 million in trade suspected of enabling Russia to evade Western embargoes. Lin Jian lambasted Washington's actions as "extremely hypocritical and overbearing," highlighting the contradiction of supplying weapons to Ukraine while advocating for peace.

In a regular news briefing, Lin urged the United States to halt what he termed "illegal unilateral sanctions" and shift focus towards promoting ceasefires, ending hostilities, and facilitating peace negotiations. He reiterated China's longstanding opposition to sanctions and emphasized the need for constructive international efforts to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

China has consistently maintained a neutral stance on the Ukraine crisis, rejecting calls from Western powers to impose sanctions on Russia. Instead, Beijing has opted to bolster trade relations with Moscow, emphasizing its commitment to safeguarding the rights and interests of Chinese companies and citizens affected by international sanctions.

These developments underscore ongoing geopolitical tensions and differing approaches among global powers in responding to the Ukraine conflict, with China asserting its stance against what it perceives as Western interference and unilateral measures impacting international trade dynamics.
