Doha, Qatar: Widam Food Company offers 27,500 sacrificial animals for Eid Al Adha, including 12,500 subsidised sheep for Qatari citizens and 15,000 goats at normal market prices for all, said a top official.

“The non-subsidised animals are goats imported from Somalia,” said Director of Public Relations Department of Widam Food Company, Musa Ahmed Al Othman.

Speaking on Qatar radio recently, he said that a whole Somali goat will be available at QR650 at Widam outlets nationwide.

“People can also buy the goats through the coupon system through the Widam app, where they can pay and book,” said Al Othman.

He said that the coupon holders can collect the sacrificial animal from Al Wakra slaughterhouse on the first and second day of Eid Al Adha.

“There will be QR25 additional charges for slaughtering and porter per coupon. Over 15,000 Somali goats have been made available for all people, including citizens and expatriates,” said Al Othman.

He added that charity organisations will get the slaughtered sacrificial animals on the third and fourth days of Eid Al Adha.

Speaking about subsidized sheep for citizens, he said that under the joint initiative, 12,500 sacrificial animals have been offered for citizens.

“The subsidized sheep include locally produced such as Al Awasi, Arab and Al Najdia and those imported to cover the demand,” said Al Othman.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), in coordination with the Ministry of Municipality and Widam Food Company, is implementing a joint national initiative to encourage local production and support the prices of sheep meat for Eid Al Adha 2024.

The initiative, which began yesterday, will continue until Wednesday, June 19, 2024.

Under the initiative, two types of sheep have been offered: local sheep of 40kg and above at QR1,000, and imported sheep of 40kg and above at QR1,000 per head.

Only citizens aged 18 and above can avail the initiative

They can buy one sheep per citizen by producing their QID at Widam outlets. Widam outlets are available in Al Shamal, Al Khor, Umm Salal, Al Wakra, Al Sheehabiya and Abu Nakhla.

There are QR50 extra charges for slaughtering, cutting into pieces, packaging and carrying to the vehicles of the beneficiaries. The company sets QR34 for porter and QR16 for slaughtering and packaging charges.

The initiative aims to regularise markets during Eid Al Adha, provide commodities with affordable prices, stabilise prices and create a balance between supply and demand.

It is also aimed at stabilising the local market during seasons in which demand for supply increases, as well as reducing unjustified price spikes in red meat during these seasonal periods.

Widam said that for more information about the initiative, beneficiaries can contact the company at 8000056.
