Türkiye Detains About 200 Suspects With Links To IS And PKK


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 29. Turkish police andgendarmerie conducted operations in 40 provinces of the country, asa result of which almost 200 suspects were detained in connectionwith the activities of Islamic State and the Kurdistan Workers'Party (PKK) extremist groups, the Turkish Interior Minister AliYerlikaya wrote on his X page, Trend reports.

The minister said that operations against IS took place in sixprovinces of the country as a result of joint efforts by theintelligence department and the counter-terrorism department of theGeneral Directorate of Security. Yerlikaya noted that 38 suspectswere detained in the provinces of Adana, Aydin, Çorum, Gaziantep,Kayseri and Mersin, and a large amount of digital materials andsignificant amounts of foreign currency and Turkish lira wereseized.

The minister added that raids against the PKK were carried outin 34 provinces, including Ankara, Antalya, Izmir, Istanbul andregions in the east and southeast of the country. He said thatthese operations were carried out in cooperation between theProsecutor General's Office, the General Directorate of theGendarmerie and the General Directorate of Security, and led to thedetention of 147 suspects of aiding or participating in theterrorist organization PKK.
